In 2024, Türkiye exported mostly to Iraq, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Germany, Libya, France, Romania, Morocco, Iran and Georgia in the furniture, paper and forestry products sectors.
In addition to the home, office, and kitchen furniture industries that contribute to the country's exports, important sub-sector groups such as the paper-cardboard industry, panel industry, door-window industry, and coating industry are also producing at world standards thanks to continuously developing technologies and major strides in design.
The furniture sector is a high value-added industry with minimal use of imported inputs, as nearly all auxiliary industrial products such as wood, metal, glass, iron, and textiles needed by the sector are produced and supplied in Türkiye. In terms of workplaces and employment levels in furniture group products, Istanbul leads the way. It is followed by Ankara, Bursa (İnegöl), Kayseri, İzmir, and Adana. The most important export markets for the furniture sector are Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Germany.
While 26.1% of our country's land was covered by forests in 1972, and 26.6% in 1997, this rate increased to 27.2% in 2010. As of 2022, it has reached 29.8%. Continuously increasing its forest area and possessing forest resources at global averages, Türkiye benefits from its unique climate diversity, which allows for the cultivation of a wide variety of tree species—bringing significant advantages to the forestry products industry.
In 2024, Türkiye's exports of furniture, paper, and forestry products decreased by 1.3%, amounting to $8.9 billion.
